EL PARQUE NACIONAL TORTUGUERO
Costa Rica's Tortuguero National Park was created in 1975 as a natural sanctuary for the protection of biodiversity and spawning of various species of sea turtles. It presents a wetland characteristic of RAMSAR international importance and is considered the third most visited park in Costa Rica.
This sanctuary of 26,204 hectares and 54,755 marine hectares is a mosaic of deltas and canals located on a wide plain on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.
Tortuguero is a place privileged by nature for its climate, natural beauty and biological diversity. The exotic climate combines rainfall almost all year round with beautiful hours of sunshine to enjoy the canals and the forest. The average temperature ranges between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.
Tortuguero beach is the spawning spot chosen by several species of turtles, including the Green turtle (Chelonia mydas) - in danger of extinction - the Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) and the Carey Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricada). Normally spawning of the green turtle can be seen between the months of July and September.
Discover the spectacular richness of nature in Tortuguero, where the canals, lagoons and wetlands are formed by the encounter between the abundant waters of the river and the sea.
